Specialist Marine
Geosurvey Expertise
As specialists in seabed mapping, hazard identification and 3D seabed profiling, we deliver comprehensive geophysical services.
The Marine GeoSurvey Division delivers advanced sub-sea geophysical surveys for offshore and near-shore mineral exploration. Using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and conventional systems deployed from vessels of opportunity, we acquire and process high-resolution data for accurate seabed mapping and hazard identification.
OPERATIONAL OVERVIEW
Two containerised AUVs, operating at depths from 10 to 300 metres and flying at 10m altitude, equipped with 2D and 3D Sub-Bottom Profiling, Side Scan Sonar, Multibeam Echosounder, Magnetometer and Subsea LiDAR, enabling rapid, high-accuracy data capture even in the most challenging environments. Our team processes and interprets data in-house, supporting decisions across the full exploration and mining lifecycle.
A Complete Shutdown Management Ecosystem
We manage complex shutdowns end to end, from workscope development through execution, providing a single point of accountability for delivery on time, on budget and to specification.
1. Workscope Development
A deeply collaborative process for shared success, including scope clarification and validation with you.
2. Planning & Scheduling
We bring vast experience in developing complex project plans, including schedules with over 18,000 activities and up to 24,000 relationships. This covers management of technical receivables and stakeholder management of common user facilities, such as the Sturrock Dry Dock.
3. Commercial Control
Accurate cost forecasting for better budget management, efficient contract management and timely intervention for discovery work, backed by third-party assurance of re-measurable contracts and rapid project closeout.
4. Quality Management
Ensuring compliance meets the highest industry standards, reducing the risk of equipment failure while enhancing operational efficiency. We provide third-party assurance of the standards achieved.
5. Integrated SHE Management
A safer work environment and improved operational efficiency, with experienced site control of over 3,000 on-site personnel ensuring the safety of every person on site. Full documentation supports compliance and assurance, reducing the risk of non-compliance and associated penalties, while innovative leading indicator analysis provides real-time insights into safety and operational performance, enabling proactive measures to prevent incidents.
6. Contractor Management
A competitively priced infrastructure of approximately 110 direct specialist companies, providing on-site work and support at high-quality service levels and competitive rates.
7. Shutdown Execution
The complete and integrated management of up to 110 specialist companies in the successful delivery of a shutdown project. Intense and detailed critical path and near-critical path management leads to reliable delivery on time and within budget, culminating in delivery of a fully commissioned vessel with all supporting documentation.
Delivering Excellence on Every Project
Since 2003, the Projects Division at Upstream Technology has delivered over 140 Category 1–3 projects with an exceptional record of staying within budget. Only three exceeded their limit by more than 5%, and none by more than 10%.
In the past decade, the division has executed two major capital projects, MV SS Nujoma and MV Benguela Gem. SS Nujoma achieved an 8% increase in nameplate capacity within its first year, delivered 5% in cost savings, and reached completion three months ahead of schedule. Benguela Gem delivered 20% additional production in its first year, came in 19% under budget, and was also completed three months early, all during the disruption of COVID-19. Both projects hold an excellent safety record.
20% additional production in 12 months while staying 19% under budget, delivered 3 months earlier than planned.
Nameplate capacity increased from 48 to 52 samples with a 5% cost saving, delivered 3 months earlier than planned.
